Editorial Policy

Sober 24 publishes articles that reflect the full diversity of experience and opinion found within the recovering community and seeks to benefit people from all walks of life impacted by diseases of addiction and/or compulsion, so that they may enrich their ongoing recovery and build upon their gift of sobriety.

Stories are the heartbeat of recovery and Sober 24 seeks to publish the broadest range of experience, strength, and hope of individual members and others in the community who are on a path of recovery and have a desire to get well.

Articles for publication are evaluated by Sober 24 staff, and while some editing is done for purposes of clarity, styling, and length, all writers are encouraged to express their own experience in their own unique way. Articles are not intended to be statements of policy, nor does publication of any article constitute endorsement by Sober 24. Articles are invited, although no payment can be made.

Sober 24 is not a 12-step program, nor are we affiliated with one, but we do believe that the path to recovery lies in participation in a 12-step program. All are welcome to contribute to Sober 24, and no one viewpoint or philosophy dominates.

Submission Guidelines

Before writing, you might want to leaf through the E-Zine section to see what kinds of articles are regularly published. A typical story is a first-person narrative written in simple, dramatic, anecdotal style with a message that the reader can "take away" and apply to his or her own life.

Ultimately, Sober 24 hopes to publish stories for different departments, such as: Wheel of Good Fortune (stories of sober serendipity, positive anecdotes, miracle moments), Hand in Hand (anecdotes about carrying - or receiving - the message of recovery), Keep Coming Back (sharing from newcomers), Thank You for My Sobriety (expressions of gratitude), and Families & Friends (questions, anecdotes, and information from and for the families and friends of people in recovery). But do not feel confined to these topics. Sober 24 is always looking for innovative material, as long as it relates to the experience of recovery and reflects an awareness of Sober 24's broad-based membership.

The E-Zine seeks to publish work of differing lengths, from pithy one-liners and one-paragraph anecdotes to more in-depth features of 2000-3000 words. All contributors will receive a reply from staff whether their manuscripts are published or not.

All article submissions must be the writer's original work. The author retains all rights, however, by submitting to Sober24.com, the author is granting permission for use of his/her article to be published and archived on Sober24.com.
